As the "Healthy China" campaign continues to advance, transportation departments and automakers in many regions are jointly promoting the "smoke-free carriage" concept, encouraging drivers and passengers to refrain from smoking inside vehicles. As a result, demand for traditional car ashtrays has declined significantly.

Data shows that in the first three quarters of 2025, sales of car ashtrays on major e-commerce platforms decreased by 34% year-on-year. Several automotive brands have stated that they have gradually reduced their production capacity for traditional ashtrays and are developing alternatives such as multi-functional storage boxes and aromatherapy devices.

Public health experts point out that the harmful effects of smoking in cars are far greater than those outdoors, as they are enclosed spaces. Promoting "smoke-free carriages" can help reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and improve public health. Some ride-hailing platforms have already incorporated "no smoking in cars" into their driver service regulations.
